Wednesday Motivation

So today I’m dealing with a little writer’s block because I’ve had a busy and stressful week, and can’t seem to locate my motivation. I’ve always believed that lack of motivation can be as easily resolved as looking for someone who’s motivated around you, and absorbing some of their positive energy. Naturally, I turned to eMom Wendy Piersall. :)

Wendy publishes a series called Monday Motivation, wherein she lists her to-do’s and updates readers as to which goals she managed to accomplished. I first saw this post about getting things done on Derek Semmler’s blog, and thought it was a great idea (although I’m not one to stick to lists, so at the time I didn’t participate). It takes a severe lack of motivation for me to jot down my immediate plan of action. I know, not good, but I’m usually a pretty motivated person.

This article helps me two-fold in beating this ugly feeling: 1. I get to publish something useful and thoughtful to share and 2. I will have a written checklist of to-do’s to tackle. I feel it’s much more constructive than just ranting about being unmotivated, right? Also, I hope if any of you are feeling the same way, it might also help you get through the slump a little quicker by writing down your to-do list.

It’s not Monday, but I’m feeling unmotivated, so this is my version: Wednesday Motivation. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Create a list for us of what you plan to get done today.

Step 2: Put it in the comments section below or post it on your blog site.

Step 3: Let us know what will motivate you to get these things done. (A reward, consequences, or whatever you need to think that will ensure you do what you say you are going to do.)

My Goals for Today:

  • Outline at least three articles for the coming week.
  • Get my car washed, it’s filthy.
  • Renew my business license, it was due yesterday.

In addition to some daily routine duties, I’m going to attempt to get these three things done. If I’m successful, I’m going to relax in the jacuzzi and sip on something with alcohol in it. I really hope I get them done!

So what are you going to do today? ;)

good luck on your midterm, and getting your RSS straightened out. mine is full-feed, and i think you should be able to configure that in Feedburner, yes?
we all can use an eMom sometimes :D but i think striving to be the best is indeed its own reward

@derek - i hope you got some sleep! i also hope you accomplish your list items because what’s a baseball game without a beer and hot dog?! :D

I did get a couple hours of sleep and I also accomplished my other tasks and enjoyed a great baseball game with a dog and beer.

This week my Wednesday motivation will be:

1. Get some sleep as it is nearly 3am and I am still messing with my site and writing a new post (it will be published at 8am CT).
2. Write a post for my “Blogging for Money” series.
3. Update my networth spreadsheets and write my monthly update post on my personal finance blog.

If I get all of these things done, I will be taking the family to a minor league baseball game Wednesday night. Okay, we’re going whether I get them done or not but I had to list something so I’ll say that if I do not get them done that I cannot have a hotdog or beer at the game.

I really struggle to get out of bed in the morning, I really need to be up for 06:00 but rarely manage it… I don’t think a list can help me in this instance… what do I do???

My Wednesday motivation is the thought that there are only 2 more days until Friday. It helps me get through sitting at a desk all day.

Here’s my Wednesday Motivation:
1. Start posting on my blog again as well as comment on other blogs.
2. Fix all the bugs and feature requests on my website JustPressPlay.
3. Organize my office
If I am successful at these things I will try and plan a small vacation for the start of September! Good luck to everyone!

Great idea, Danielle! This is the perfect post to break writer’s block. Here’s my list of things to do today:

1. Get to the airport 5 hours before the flight to Tokyo
2. Make 894% sure that everything is in order for boarding
3. Don’t get held up in immigration due to communication problems
4. Discuss the situation with NorthWest reps at Narita
5. Get out of the airports and into Reiko’s arms

A repeat of yesterday would be like sliding naked down a pole made of sandpaper and into a tub of iodine, so there’s my motivation for ensuring everything comes to pass :)

@chris - i wish i was a list person. strange how u can have all these lists, but u didn’t complete the astrology article. and i can’t write lists to save my life, but i can crank out a thousand top 5 articles! weird! LOL

1) find at lest 3 other revenue streams for everydayfiction.com - I have 5 but I want to find as many as possible before my meeting on Monday.
2) Promote EveryDayFiction.com by getting on to as many “top commenter’s” lists on the first day (this post helps)
3) Create payment gateway for writers on EveryDayFiction.com - We open in September and we need a way to pay our writers, if they do not donate the money back to the magazine.

its going to be a busy week for the webmaster (AKA me) but at lest i am not a editor. We received 50 stories last night that they have to review.

As a reward for getting all my stuff done i get to go out to dinner with some of my oldest friends.

HA funny you should write this, I just wrote a post last night about effective time management to get more done in a shorter time.. weird!!!

Well Danielle, here’s motivation for you - get all those things done and I’ll give you 5 mins free on my webcam show tonight ;)

1. Today’s a very motivational day for me - it’s august 1st, time for July work invoices to be printed and delivered to my clients!!!! :D:D:D:D
2. Clean my bedroom - this will be a daunting task.
3. Buy facewash and a new toothbrush.
4. Clean up some logo designs to finalize them.
5. Research office supply cost for another client of mine to come up with a first-month budget for operations
6. Get started on the custom CMS for another website I’m building.
7. Buy guitar strings (I broke them in Costa Rica).

That should keep me busy.

Inflate your numbers, replying back to individually is a gold mine for padding numbers legally.

According to Paragraph 4 - Article 7 in Section 13 in reference to Chapter 3 of the blogging bylaws -

If said blogger has nested comments then that blogger can rightfully respond individually to each comment on his\her blog. The purpose behind this is to avoid readers from scrolling up and down comment to find the comment the publisher is referring to. Nested replies eliminate this needless scrolling, unless it is under utilized by a person responding to several different comments in one comment.

Whoops, I just closed the window where I found that, so I do not have a link for you….sorry

1. Golf in the employee outing
2. Get drunk
3. Sleep

Yep, these are the three EASY goals I have to accomplish today.

BTW - You have a business liscense so then you can be your own business person on the net? Use a “company” bank account and things of that nature? I thought you were just an internet worker type person (lol).

i did accomplish my short list. luckily, my biz license was due on august 1st, so no penalty for me! :D was funny though, when i went to renew it at the city, it was like being in an episode of The Office, minus the humor of steve carroll. two office workers were discussing how in the last few years their “IT” guys could never figure out how to fix this one computer, and how they always had to call on some guy named Frank to fix it. the lady was fixated on the fact that they had to call Frank, and was determined to locate him. she was totally calm and emotionless the whole time. i wish i had it on video. it could’ve aired as the next episode. my city is 1.5 square miles, really.

“our IT guys haven’t been able to fix it, ever, in the last few years. we have to call Frank. (silence) Maybe so-and-so has his number (rummages through desk) *sigh* I think i’ll have to call so-and-so. (silence. ring ring) ‘hi do you have frank’s number?’ (silence) ‘ok. hmmm Let me know when you find Frank.’ ”
the guy she was talking to the whole time just sort of stood there nodding his head, shadowing her the entire time, i guess with nothing to do. it was hard to watch, but i couldn’t go anywhere bc i had to wait for the other lady to finish with my license renewal. they never acknowledged me and were standing right behind the counter.

I am a very list oriented person, but what do you do when you have too many lists. I have a pile of about 5 lists on my desk right now. Maybe I should make a list of all my lists to make them easier to keep track of :S Anyway, it’s good to hear you got your list done.
