Using Bloglines to Help Increase SEO
Jun 21st, 2007 by msdanielle
If you’re looking for another on-the-rise way to help increase your SEO ranks, consider participating in Darin Carter’s Bloglines List. Since Ask.com acquired Bloglines, they’ve been slowly added to internet marketing tools around the web. If you’re not already a Bloglines member, create an account and participate in this train.
Says Darin, “So here is another idea to help us as a blogging community help one another … Not only will this boost your RSS Readership Number, it will also help boost your Bloglines Stats and even give you a few more links in Technorati!”

Here are the rules:
1) If you don’t have a bloglines account signup for one, if you do have a bloglines account sign in to your account!
2) Write a short introduction paragraph about what how you found the Bloglines list and include a link to the blog that referred you to the list.
3) COPY the Rules and ENTIRE List below and post it to your blog. To avoid duplicate content and increase the amount of keywords your site can be accessible for, go ahead and change the titles of the blog. Just don’t change the links of the blog.
4) Take “My New List†and move them into the “The Original Listâ€.
5) Add 3 Blogs that you’ve just added to your Bloglines List to the “My New List†section. Remember to also add the “List the Site link next to your new blogs (i.e. http://www.bloglines.com/sub/http://www.theblogurl.com/feed)
6) Add Everyone on this list to your Bloglines List by clicking on “List the Site.†Those who want good kharma will list you back. If not, you will for sure get the benefits of readers from the bloggers who continue this list after you.

This is a classic link pyramid structure. Think of the old Ponzi schemes or the forum and news group posts that were circulated for several years where you were asked to add your name and address to a list, bump the bottom person, and then redistribute the list to 200 discussion groups.
The old “send me a dollar” scheme was illegal. The link pyramid is not but neither is it a sustainable idea. The people who benefit the most from this scheme will be the early adapters.
They’re also the ones who take on the most risk of being banned by the search engines.
hi michael
i was hoping you wouldn’t see this post. LOL just playing. i knew you were gonna flame me for this. i know, you’re right, i’m just hoping my site doesn’t get banned…… there are a lot of other link trains floating around out there that i passed up too, but others included my site on the list. can i be penalized for that if i didn’t participate? thank you for your valued feedback.
btw, i really enjoyed your 100 answers to seo-theory questions.

Thanks again MsDanielle, for this viral wisdom, particularly to Darin Carter who initiated it. I have joined the train and listed the 17 sites in my bloglines feed.
i wld post this onmy blog too.
thanks philomena, and to all who are participating. i’m still trying to catch up from this weekend, so if you don’t hear from me right away, just know i will eventually catch up…hopefully!
I have said much about this on darin’s blog. WE ERRED! We all voted GOOGLE by a two-third majority as the Governor of search engine world.
Our motive and method was not pure in the eyes of the puritanic “Googvernor”, though our ambition for web prominence is noble and legitimate.
We should focus on being great bloggers and leave gaming the system alone. For me it is time to raise up my white flag of surrender and I have done that by expunging even the viral post. (no offense meant to my dear friend, danielle).
I am now a “Goo(d)g” and law abiding citizen of the blogosphere ruled by “Go(d)og”.

But one thing I noticed that that the feed link of many blogs (link pointed by “List the Site†text) is not correct. When you click on that, the Blogline window says “No feed was foundâ€.
To correct this problem, I had to change the feed URL of a few blogs to
http://www.bloglines.com/sub/http://www.theblogurl.com/rss.xml
instead of
http://www.bloglines.com/sub/http://www.theblogurl.com/feed

Bloglines SEO Ranking…
I found this interesting post while viewing Ms. Danielle post about increasing SEO ranking with a Bloglines List.

These “link train” ideas are picking up in popularity.
They also appear to be getting blogs penalized.
I strongly suggest you bow out of this and all future “link train” opportunities because even if MsDanielle.com has enough trust and love to get past the link train barrier to trust, a lot of smaller blogs don’t.
I tracked down the originating blog for another “link train” idea that started its chain of spam links in August. That blog and every other blog it tagged appears to have lost all value in Google.
Being openly manipulative and explaining how you openly manipulate links is generally NOT a good idea as the search engine can zoom in on a lot of information and develop a spam profile pretty quickly.
Michael,
I have said that our motives and methods were impure in the eyes of a puritanic “Googvenor” of the web, but our ambitions and desires web prominence are noble and legitimate.
I believe our ultimate value resides with our audience and not in the “Googvernor” of the web. just let us play if fair and not by foul means.
