Share This a useful little plugin by Alex King that I installed a couple days ago. I saw it on Saman’s blog, and thought how it saves so much space, rather than putting all the individual social network icons below each post, or on the sidebar.

picture-25.pngThis is the little icon you see below the post after you activate the plugin. It takes up a lot less space than having all the buttons there.

When you click on the little green expander, this is what you see open up:

I figured I’d share the Share This plugin in hopes you’ll Share This! ;) Why? Because sharing is caring…

Update (4/2): I’ve decided to get rid of Share This and switch to Name Dropper. Name Dropper is that little string of social networking text links you see below each post now. From an online marketing point of view, it’s always best to cut down the number of actions (i.e. clicks) it takes for someone to perform a desired goal (submit my article to Digg!). This way, it only takes you ONE click to Digg my articles, instead of two… Hint hint…

Update II (4/8): OK so once again I’ve ditched my current social network bookmarking plugin, and installed Sociable. Thanks to Jez for the heads-up! Now it includes the best of both previous plugins — a compact set of icons listed in a row below the post. Feel free to test them all out to make sure they work! ;)

I had this installed and its very nice - but then all of the sudden it stopped showing up on my pages… I haven’t had time to look into it but thats something to put on the to-do list.

I personally use AddThis and though I like it, it doesn’t have the email function ShareThis does. I wonder if there’s a seperate plugin I can find for sharing by email…

Personally, I don’t like the way the Add This button looks… Also, the Share This has more options for the visitor - to each their own!

For those using this plugin, do you have any ideas on how often readers actually click through to share a post? It seems like this adds an extra layer of clicking for the user and I am wondering that deters more people.

hey everyone, derek has a great point. if you share articles, do you prefer to just click on the button on the page, or go thru a widget like sharethis, or addthis?
i was thinking that as well… like it’s more of an aesthetics thing for me. i don’t like how all the little buttons look all crammed together. but as we all know, adding just one more “action” can keep someone from “converting” ;) more on that later…
derek - maybe we should do a poll??

Thanks. I was looking for this correct plugin. I like the layout of it. I was about to load the first one, but didn’t like the layout.
