Remember to Put Thought Into Your Publishing: A Letter to My Fellow Bloggers
Jun 18th, 2007 by msdanielle
You stand in front of your closet to think about what you’re going to wear to a job interview. You prepare what you’re going to say during your presentation at school. So don’t forget to put considerable thought into your blog posts, since this is information that will be published about yourself, or your knowledge on a particular subject, to the entire world. It’s important to ponder your writings, as you don’t want to lose the interest of your readership.
I’ve been receiving a lot of feedback lately about my blog, and one thing I’ve read more than a few times is that my readers appreciate that I take the time to put some thought into my writing. Actually, I’m glad to hear this feedback because I really do put a lot of thought into my posts, whether they be ppc related or seo related or just silly topics that I feel like sharing. The bottom line is, I prefer not to publish anything for the sake of publishing something.
So what’s the big deal about putting thought into your blog, you ask, since well, it’s your blog and not mine? It’s just some advice I wanted to share. People enjoy reading perspective, and being intellectually stimulated. Anyone can report what’s happening, but giving your own unique analysis or twist will provide much more value to the reader. Value creates loyal readers, and loyal readers help spread the word of your site.
What I tend to do with my blog, since it’s a mix of industry information, marketing tips, and personal anecdotes, is that I try to space them out accordingly throughout the week, and create a rough outline for each post. Having a powerful intro and thoughtful closing to any type of blog post gives structure and strength to your writings.
Here are a few recent reviews for my Zune contest that caught my eye because either 1.) the writer emphasized that good content is the basis for reading my blog, 2.) the writer, in exchange, also provided thoughtful, interesting, and engaging content, or because 3.) I did not request a site review but the reader provided it anyway, because they felt my site deserved the added value.
I’ve been reading Ms. Danielle’s blog site for a few weeks now… Her blog has seemingly the perfect mix of personal posts and useful blogging posts, which is helping her blog grow. Her contest isn’t asking for a full review, but I think I’ll give one… Needless to say, the major strength of this blog is the content. It’s well written and interesting topics. [Thanks for your critique!]
I also like the fact that she throws in a little bit of personality into her posts by including some personal stories… I really love it when bloggers take the time and put effort into their posts rather than just talk about what happened in their day today – which to me seems like every other day. She brings in personality, news, and her unique writing style is what helps her in being successful and I wish her luck in the future! [Thanks, Enkay! You, too!]
I checked out her site and found a interesting post right away my-top-5-favorite-childhood-cartoons and I decided to write my own top five. [Cool!]
Remember that anyone can come across your blog at anytime, through your home page, through a Google search, or through word of mouth. In this day and age of increased adult-onset-ADD (!), it only takes a few seconds for someone to click on your site, miss the value, and click away. You want to do whatever it takes to convert that click into a loyal reader. Consider your blog and ask yourself this, Have you truly put your best foot forward?

I have read a few articles in the paper on how employers are starting to search the web for information on potential employees. There was one story where a person didn’t get the job they wanted because they have a bunch of party pictures of them up on the web.
i’ve heard this too. it can be a detriment if you post crazy pictures of yourself. i personally know of managers who check myspace for each applicant before considering them for hire. i’m not sure how ethical that is, but if you put yourself out there like that, i suppose it’s fair game…
It’s totally ethical. If someone’s an idiot and wants to post pictures of them getting hosed doing God knows what… it’s a sign to an employer. We live in a different world now. Information can be obtained anywhere.
I have actually writen about this on one of my blogs. (in portuguese though). Many bloggers when they find something interesting they just think about writing it.
Personally I take about 2 days to write a post about some subject. One day to write and compose and probably the next day, with a more clear head to revise it.
I couldnt’ agree with you more. I write from my heart too. It makes me feel good inside knowing that I can help someone realize their full potential in the world of dating. Thanks for helping my brother help me. Much appreciated! I’m sure we will run into one another one day.
Viva The Game | dating tips from a guy’s perspective
hi viva, glad to see you here
i don’t think there was any stopping prija… he’s a guy on a mission, that’s for sure LOL i’m always around, feel free to hit me up anytime you have questions. i’m sure we’ll all go for a round of beers soon, that is, if we’re not too busy blogging
@dyphan – do you think it’s possible to keep all of your “happenings” private with all the information that’s out there these days? it would suck if someone posted pictures of someone else and got them busted… =/
@mario – i’m like you. i usually write my longer posts at night and revise them the next day after i’ve had some sleep!
@jason – thanks! yea i knew i had to fix it, it was getting all jumbled. i guess i didn’t need all that stuff, so thanks again for the reminder!
Hey, thanks for the link.
Btw. . . your sidebar looks 1000% better. I hope you see an improvement in your ecpm with the ads placed across the top of your page. It looks more professional yet retains your personality. Good Job!
You have converted me,
After you responded to my post with an actual comment instead of just ‘thank you’ you won my readership. and the fact that you content is well written, and entertaining to read helps too
You’re right it’s all about content. Like you said before it’s not a get rich quick scheme. Thanks again for everything. My site is finally up. =)
Ms. D,
