On the Hunt for Good PPC Resources to Share

Today I felt like gathering some resources on PPC to share with you all. Like SEO, PPC has a lot to do with optimizing, optimizing, and more optimizing! In theory, a PPC campaign is never “done.” Factors such as industry trends, increased or decreased competition, an ad’s long-term effectiveness, and platform changes (i.e. Google implementing landing page quality score) can all affect your campaign performance. Participating in PPC requires that you stay on top of what’s going on so you’re not caught off-guard by any of these changes.

I came across a thread in the DigitalPoint Forums about click-through-rate (CTR) and clicked on one of the URLs in reference. As many of you might already know, there are lot of really crappy threads on DP, but every once in awhile, there will be something that’s pretty useful. I’ve come to terms with the fact that most of the people discussing and sharing industry secrets are publishers. So, rarely do I come across valuable advertiser information. Anyway, I recommend you to check out this great tips article on the importance of CTR, and ways to increase it for purposes of raising your landing page quality score. PayPerClickReference is one of the better sites I’ve come across for PPC tips and advice. The only statement I don’t agree with so far is this:

There are other options advertisers often get confused with pay per click ads. The first option is pay per impression. This is where the advertiser is basically paying for low-quality traffic generated by the publisher. Whether users click on their ad or not, the advertiser pays each time their ad is displayed.

I’m unsure what they mean by low-quality, since I’ve found that site-targeting through Google AdWords can give highly relevant cost-per-thousand (CPM) impression traffic. Regardless, when I find a great PPC resource, I keep it forever in my bookmarks, which is where PPCR has ended up.

Another great resource I’ve come across recently is Gordon Choi’s PPC blog. Examples of the quality of his writing appear in his articles about Effectively Managing Multiple PPC Projects and the Importance of Versatile PPC Platforms. I appreciate his earnest writing style and frank evaluation of the PPC industry. He doesn’t update daily, but the information he provides is worth the wait. Great blog!

Here are some additional references that you guys may find useful. If you have additional resources that you use to gather your PPC tips and information, please leave them in the comments section. Thanks!

Great list Danielle - I just stumbled it!

I was looking at your page source (assuming you were running all-in-one-seo) and noticed that you didn’t have a description written… That’s not good SEO!!

No worries Lady, I have noticed a big difference since using All-In-One-SEO and just thought I could help!

Now, if you could just change the tab order for the “Add Comment” button, I’d be happy - you do realize that you blog is all about making me happy, right?

Hello Danielle. Pay Per Click Reference is my website. I can see why you disagree with my comment about pay per impression. That’s not how I intended it to come across when I was trying to describe the difference between it and PPC. I was trying to tell my visitors that traffic from PPM can be different from PPC because of how and where the ads are usually served. I decided to rewrite my pay per impression definition and not bother with the traffic comment since I couldn’t come up with a short, but clear description. Thanks for the mention on your blog. Have a great weekend.

I didn’t take your comments as an attack at all. I thought it was a sincere review of Pay Per Click Reference. I always appreciate thoughtful critiques. Thanks again for the mention.
