Networking: LA Style, and Beyond

picture-12.png

So the networking mixer that I mentioned before ended up being a great event. It was at this amazing new venue in downtown LA called J Lounge. In my circle, only my friend Nixon, who threw the mixer, had heard of it before. It was an ideal setting for a sophisticated type of mixer - the contemporary furnishings, humongous patio and elaborate bars created the perfect atmosphere. Nixon invited a bunch of his friends, including me. I invited Gary, who also invited his friends, and so on and so forth. It was a great turn-out considering everyone found out about it that same week! I think the best part about it was that a lot of our friends actually ended up networking! One friend got a freelance web design gig from someone needing to re-do their site, another got to promote their indie concert next Friday, and another, well, he got some girl’s email address. You know who you are… ;) Here’s a picture of Mr. Gary Lee and Ms. Danielle, in case any of you are curious what we look like! (This is before we got wasted, btw.)

But seriously, I think a lot of our friends made some great connections which will benefit all of them now and in the future. Whether it’s networking in the real world or networking online with other bloggers, it’s vital that you reach out and make those connections, and foster them. I try to support Gary and also reach out to some of the other bloggers like Saman, JMH, and Marisa. They’re great people, and I think you should go say Hi to them. :) Let them know I referred you to their network so I can get my five dollars. Just kidding… ;)

Sounds like a great time. Thinking about starting something like this up in Madison, WI. Put a posting out on meetup.com but haven’t heard anything back…

This really is a great idea - that’s one bad thing about the net: You meet great people but you can’t talk to them face to face!

yea it would be cool if we could all hang out huh?! ;) but hey it doesn’t have to just be bloggers, just like-minded people. bouncing ideas off each other keeps the creative juices flowing. and to natron - good luck putting something together. let us know when you get it going! :)

Wish I lived in L.A. or Vancouver…
I mean, I don’t live in a small city (Toronto), but I don’t know of any of these events that go on!

I know one blogger in Hawaii, where I’m vacationing now, but she’s on a different island. Darn. Any bloggers on Kauai right now? Let’s meet!

Always a good idea to meet other people in the area. John Chow, myself and some other dot com-er’s in Vancouver hold a lunch every week on Saturday.

Cool idea, I’m in a big enough city that I am sure there have got to be people around for a networking event. I’ll be adding this site to my list of reads as I see quite a few familiar faces around here.

I couldn’t even tell you of 1 blogger I know around here and that is sad. I know a lot of people too, but none of them are very big with working online. Hard to believe that some of my friends don’t even have a computer. Can you imagine that? that is just crazy to me.
