My Baby is Two Months Old Today!

My baby, meaning, MsDanielle.com. ;) These past two months have been pretty interesting, and seem more like six months than two. But I can’t complain. My second month was pretty exciting, seeing as how I just turned 30, I found the shoes I was hunting down, and John Chow picked my name out of a hat and I won a MS Zune! Don’t worry, btw, I will be contesting it away, as promised. :D

I thought I’d just do a quick stat post, and share some thoughts I’ve had on blogging. Here we go…

Content:
There are currently 57 posts in my blog, which is almost one per day! I just realized it right now! LOL And there are 620 comments, which averages almost 11 comments per post. This number’s slightly skewed though because of the Technorati train and also my birthday post (which appeared on JohnChow dot com last week). I have to thank John for including me in that post. It’s great to see him interacting a lot lately with many of his readers. So, thanks, John! :)

subs66.jpgWriting posts nearly everyday is time consuming, and can sometimes feel overwhelming at the beginning. But from my experience, I’ve seen that my writing has gotten a little better and the writing starts to flow once you find your rhythm. Pushing through it and making it a habit helps get through the slumps, and makes you feel more accomplished in the end. I think a great measure of how your blog is doing is the number of people who subscribe to your blog. As of yesterday, my subscription count is 66, which surpassed my last goal of reaching 50. I’m a little shocked in a way that 66 people are reading this blog. ;)

Links:
Right now I have 215 backlinks in Google which I think is amazing. I was checking everyday for a month before the PR update, and I consistently had a whopping 2 backlinks! These new backlinks have contributed to MsDanielle receiving a PR4, which I’m really excited about. Thanks go to everyone who’s linked to my site!

Ranks:
alexa0507.jpg
My Alexa ranking
has been fluctuating a lot these days, I think from appearing on JC’s site twice, plus a few of the link trains floating around have been giving me some really great quality traffic. I’m trying to visit as many blogs as I can these days, but it’s tough when there are so many really awesome blogs in a bunch of different areas that I enjoy reading about. I will say that if you leave a comment here I’ll most likely check out your blog since there’s a footprint of your visit. It helps me when I have down time to check out those who share some interesting thoughts with me.

trati0507.jpgYou may have heard that Technorati recently changed their ranking system. My ranking as of today is 13,253. My last goal was to reach 50,000 which I can safely say I’ve achieved.

My next goals:
I have a few things in mind when thinking about what I’d like to achieve with this blog. I think the top two goals are to continually try to create content that people are interested in reading, and to do it in a way that’s easy for me to write. If I can combine these two things in a focused way, I think I’ll be able to grow my readership and keep a great group of people around here for awhile.

You might notice I haven’t posted any monetization stats. Well, at this point, I haven’t really focused on trying to make money. I barely posted some AdSense ads under my header yesterday, and put a larger skyscraper block in the right side bar. I’ll see if I can make some money in the next month in text links and maybe a paid post or two. But paid reviews are something I’ll only consider if it’s something that I’m truly interested in, that I think my readers will gain from. I’ve done a few free sponsored reviews so far which is practice for me. If they suck, please feel free to let me know :)

Anyway, my baby is now two months old and growing. Thanks to everyone for helping me take such good care of her!

Hello Ms. Danielle
Congratualtions on your 2 month anniversary!! I too started blogging seriously about 2 months (regular posts) ago even though my blog has been up since 2006 and while i havent fared as well as you in the traffic department i am quite content with what i have achieved. However, i have got to hand it to you for the statistics you have displayed…its an amazing job and shows that your hard work is paying off !! Good Luck in the future !!

woot! Nicely done. You’re about at the same stage that I’m at and I’ve been doing it for six months! :D I made PR4 during the last update and remained at PR4 for this one. We’re pretty much even for Technorati and stuff too.

But heck, 620 comments for 57 posts! I’ve got 242 posts and just over a thousand comments!

Install Text Link Ads and promote that. It’s a pretty decent source of income. Mine equals my Adsense for sure since five sites have purchased links on my blog.

humble humble kelly . . . let’s not get too high on ourselves just yet . . hahahaha . . . we all know subscriber counts jump up and down like crazy so I would wait a little bit before claiming anything for Danielle’s hard work these past 2 months . . .

I see you revised your last comment, which deleted my reply.
Of course Danielle earned most of the subscribers herself! Her site’s great!
Look, all I’m saying is that I also saw the spike on monday on my feed count and that got me excited too cuz yeah, numbers go up and down but for a young blog like mine, it doesn’t normally jump 10 in a day. Now hopefully, all those subscribers will actually read the blog for the content and keep involved and the community strong.

Awesome results for a 2-month old blog. You should be popping the champaign.

Agreed that writing could be a chore at times. But I’m sure you found it a little easier with each day past. Also agreed that paid review post must have integrity and substance, otherwise it will simply alientate your fans. Not worth doing even if the pay-out is >$100. Still, I did enjoy reading some respectable review posts. Come to think of it, I only realized it was such when I spotted the line, “This was a sponsored post.”

Have fun, drop by to visit me again.

Great stats achieved for a 2 months young blog, the only way forward is UP!! I started serious blogging in mid Mar (with daily post, well, almost), but my stats is nowhere near yours. Sadly for me, not even a feed subscriber. I got to rethink my strategy.
Anyway, great blog you got there, and I’m expecting more from here on! BLOG ON!!

Congratulations! We’re neck in neck in most areas, except you’re one-up on me with the Zune.

You actually have more than 200 backlinks in Google. A better query would be “msdanielle.com/” -site:msdanielle.com.

That’s called a “URL search” and it often reports more than just backlinks, but it’s a better indicator than any other query.

You have some fantastic rankings there - very well done indeed!

hey everyone - here’s more of Michael Martinez’s explanation of the “msdanielle.com/” -site:msdanielle.com:

The first part of the query is called a “URL” search. It tells the search engine to return all pages where that URL is found, either as a link or as text.

The second part negates a site search of your domain. That is, it tells the search engine to exclude all pages on your domain from the query.

You can get an incomplete backlink report from Google if you verify your domain with Webmaster Central. They only update the data once or twice a month and they don’t tell you much about the links, but they do divide the data into External and Internal links. It’s better information than you’ll get from either the URL search or the link: query.
