picture-9.pngWhat?”

In the last couple weeks, a flurry of memes and link trains shot out of nowhere, and while I’m very appreciative and flattered to be tagged by so many wonderful bloggers, I didn’t know where to begin or which one to post; there were just so many at once. I took time to ponder them because there’s a risk of Google catching wind of these trains and incorporating into their algorithms a way to negate links associated with link trains — that is, if they can find them. Attempting to avoid any penalties, and ensuring that links from my blog pass along proper PR, I’m compiling the first meme/train mash-up! OK maybe not the first, but I like to tell myself that it is.

This is how it goes: I list the trains and memes where I’ve been tagged recently, and you decide which ones you’d like to participate in. It’s a “train meme”! Remember, when you participate in any of these memes, try to vary up the article so no two posts have the same content. This will benefit both your blog and everyone else’s as well. If you do link back to my post, make sure to also link to the train/meme originator’s. Remember the whole idea here is to spread the link love!

***The Geek Train***

David Wilkinson over at Techzi started this Geek Train, and he’s recognized my geekdom and included me on this list. Thanks, David! I am to be known as “The Uber-Blogger.” I’m not sure why, but perhaps it’s because of my About Me page? I don’t think of myself as an uber-blogger, but I will gladly take the title! I’ve anchored the epithets rather than the names to change it up, and also since well, I’m rooting that Ed will someday rank for “awesome.” :D

The original geek list includes me, The Uber-Blogger, The Legendary Gary Lee, The Awesome Ed Lau (yes, I renamed him! LOL), The Rhetorical Michael Kwan, The Chameleon Leo Chiang (I renamed him too!), The Root of All Evil John Chow, The Career Minded Jane May, The Nifty DoshDosh, The Brilliant Shoemoney, The Yakkety Stephen Fung, The Enterprising Matt Coddington, The MasterMind Jon Waraas, and The Business Dude Josh Mullineaux.

Let’s also not forget about The Perv…I mean The Ambitious Jeff Kee, The Overclocker Shawn Knight, The Incredible Chris Hooley, and The Wickedly Cool Everton Blair.

This train was started by The Kid David Wilkinson and The Blog Designer Nate Whitehill. I’d like to add to this list The Sneaky Bastard Prija P, The Thinker Bob Buskirk, The Well-Rounded Michelle Cepeda, The Web Developer Jon Lee, The Sexy Geek Kiltak, and The Techie Enkay. If you want to participate, feel free to check out Techzi, or create your own version of this train. Geeks only!

***Contest Jet Train***

I’m supporting my friend The Sneaky Bastard, Prija, who’s tagged me in his newest contest — The Contest Jet Train. Prija began CashForComments as a “get paid to comment” internet marketing site that paid everyone in links, not in real cash. In the process, he’s come up with various sneaky ways for all his readers to benefit from his little brainstorms. He mentioned a blogging movie to me about a month ago, which I wasn’t sure he was going to really make. But it turns out our sneaky friend is a man on a mission — to put blogging on the mainstream map and create some big buzz in the process.

Feel free to check out the contest for yourself. In the meantime, I have to also mention the following blogs: WhyGoElsewhere, OnlineOpportunity, Jamaipanese, Derrich, BetshopBoy, ContestBlogger, RobertaFerguson, NetBusinessJournal, and ThePrizeBlog. Anyone linked in the above train has not been added a second time to this list. Go to CFC for the entire original list.

***The Blogging Tip Meme***

Bob Buskirk tagged me on this Blogging Tip Meme. Like the Geek Train, I’m changing up the text slightly which will benefit those people already linked.

1. Look, read, and learn. **** NeonScent

2. Be, EXCELLENT to each other. **** BushMackel

3. Don’t let money change ya! **** TheRandomForest
(Blackalicious Deception reference?)

4. Always reply to your comments. ***** ChattieKat

5. Spell check is your friend. ** ThingsByMike

6. Be the blog. *** MeAndMyDrum

7. Your readers are your treasure.** BrownBaron

8. Learn From The Pros. ** ShaunLow

9. Pay a visit to your visitors. Be active in your community. ** LeoChiang

10. Make Your Blog Your Own. * BobBuskirk

11. When you don’t feel like writing, just write. MsDanielle

I think I’ll tag Kelly, Natron, Jason, and Saman on this one! :) If I didn’t tag you, you can definitely add the meme to your blog, include your own tip and URL, and tag your friends.

***Jump Start Your Page Rank***

Enkay Blog is quickly becoming one of my favorite blogs, that’s for sure. He’s created the Jump Start Your Page Rank train, which was also created to help spread some link love. I’ve pretty much linked to all my blog friends in today’s post, except for TaylorBlue, HoneWatson, Julie, Jez and Derek. So…if you’d like to participate and spread some of your link love, I recommend you pay him a visit to jump start your page rank!

(See why it took me awhile to get to all these trains!? Feel free to pick any of them and help spread the link love. If I’ve linked to you, please leave me a comment. It would be cool to see 50 comments on this post! And if you don’t like these kinds of memes, at least I was able to cram them all into one instead of writing four!)

Thanks for the link love Danielle and the comment! :) Thats a lot of link trains. I haven’t seen one of them before so I will be looking at that. I will be doing Prija’s contest jet train soon too and thats mainly because the name is pretty great. I don’t know about the other trains but Prija’s link train and my link train have definitely gained a lot of attention. My authority on Technorati has gone up by 35 in about 2 days! Once again, Thanks for the mention :)

hi jason, no problemo! thanks for always contributing great commentary (esp re: google) on my blog as well as on everyone else’s.

@mahdi and nick - don’t worry, there’s plenty of link love to go around soon. there are prob 50 more blogs i could’ve linked to but 100 links would’ve been way too many :)

hmmmm you’re right… the colors of the bars are mixed up. Some strange property of handling CSS on IE I believe… I haven’t checked in IE6 yet tho.

Thanks for participating. I loved your tip! The full list of blogging tips are here: http://neonscent.com/blog/2007/07/19/blogging-tips-web-meme/
Also, it’s predicted that the PR update is getting close; what’s a better time to partcipate in memes and get your link around? ;)

I would recommend staying out of such promotions. Google has a very bad record of blacklisting sites that try to overcome their PR system.

.. which makes it harder for the average person with average resources to succeed at blogging. It is a lot harder for low PR folks to make a buck…
