Fox’s “On The Lot” Premiere: Go Dean!!

dean.jpgSo I get this random email last night from Fox Broadcasting Network announcing that their new show On The Lot had premiered that day, and I think, “Hey, I think that’s the show Dean is supposed to be on.” I immediately check Fox’s web site, and sure enough, it had premiered and I’d missed it because I was golfing! (Golf update to follow later)

Here’s the back story. My friend Dean IM’s me a link to his short film a few months back and basically says, “My film got chosen for a TV show that Steven Spielberg is producing. Let me know what you think, but don’t show this to anyone.” I was like, Whoa, what?! I view the film which, by the way, is very Dean-esque to the core. Dean is the guy we lovingly refer to as The Asian Woody Allen. It was a great film! He’s created a number of music videos, short films, political satires, and commercials, many of which received acclaim from various organizations. He’s written for a few popular TV shows, and was a featured writer for a magazine I used to help run. So of course I was super excited for him when he told me his film was chosen, beating out 12,000 other applicants.

Check out the show synopsis A Look At On The Lot here. Dean is the guy who yells, “Cut! I’m wrapped! Let’s go!”

If he makes the audition cut, it’ll be up to the audience to decide if he moves on to the next round. I’m not worried about him though, even though they’ll be required to film and edit a short film in only 24 hours, because he’s actually done it before and he works great under pressure! At the time, I thought he was crazy, but maybe that’s just what directors do for motivation…

I’m calling on all of you to help my friend Dean if/when he gets to the final round! He could win a million-dollar deal with DreamWorks. How exciting is that?! The next show airs tomorrow, May 24th, on Fox. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for him, and I hope he makes it through. I hope you all will help me in supporting him. Congratulations, Dean! Either way, you’re already a winner to me!

Update (5/23): I hadn’t posted Dean’s site info since I thought the show might be sensitive about participants’ information being in the public eye. But he says it’s OK for me to post, sooo…here’s his site: XDLfilms.com. You can view his short films, videos, commercials, bio, etc. Feel free to leave comments, since he’ll probably come back here to read them. :) What you can’t view is his On The Lot entry, you’ll just have to sit tight and stay tuned! To Fox, that is…but he tells me there’s lots of drama. Oooohhh….can’t wait!!

Thanks for your support and words of encouragement, guys! it is pretty exciting stuff. He told me today there’s some real dramatic stuff that happens! EEK! I can’t WAIT!! LOL :D i’m so cornball i know… and even though this is “reality tv” it is a very real prize. but at the very least, steven spielberg, garry marshall, princess leia ;) and brent ratner all know him, so in probably two degrees, he knows everyone in hollywood! hahahaha… pretty freakin cool…

Cool for your friend! one a side note though I was reading Drudge Report and he has a headline about that show and how it flopped.. or more precisely ‘bombed’.. I hope that doesn’t affect anything to do with your friend getting any deals…. good luck! Oh adn I can’t say I watched it, I hate those reality tv shows..

That is so cool. I tivo’d that last night and am excited to watch it. When I was younger my plan always involved making movies… sometimes I wish I hadn’t been sidetracked. Congrats to your friend.

Did you get a chance to see how many quality films were submitted for the competition? It’s crazy…digital film making technology has changed everything!

sooooooo….. Dean has made it to the next round! woohoo! looks like next week they’ll be given a script that they’ll have to direct in a very short amount of time on the movie lot. should be exciting! if Dean makes this next cut (crossing my fingers!) then his fate will be left in the hands of the viewers. I know they haven’t really showed him much, but i think it’s because he’s not a drama queen or an eager beaver. he’s an industry guy and so far probably just not enough drama for the show yet. if he makes it after next week, will you guys help Dean out with a vote? that would be really awesome of you all. i know reality tv is normally crap but this is a real deal in the making if he wins!! it would mean the world to me and to my friend :) thanks everyone!!!
