Flashback Friday Volume 8
Aug 24th, 2007 by msdanielle
I’m bringing it back to the hair metal days today. This is one of my favorite monster ballads of all time, and if you love monster ballads like me, then I bet this one is on your list too. I remember in eighth grade, waiting till midnight to watch Headbanger’s Ball hosted by Rikki Rachtman with my best friend Melanie. We’d have sleep-overs and record our favorite videos on VHS! Anyway, I hope this song brings back good memories for you, as it does for me. I don’t care what anyone says, it’s still a great song. I mean, how many guitars is Mick Mars playing in this song?!
And I have to add that Nikki Sixx is still beyond hot, probably due to the fact that he’s teamed up with St. John poster-girl Kelly Gray to launch the clothing line Royal Underground. Rockers can clean up nicely when they want to. See?

This is much more than I can say about Vince Neil… But I hear he’s having a blast on his Motley Cruises. Rock on, buddy!

woohoo, I loved Headbanger’s Ball and Motley Crue and hair metal!!! I still do, actually! And I taped Headbanger’s Ball every week too!
how did you comment so fast?! LOL
wow we could’ve been watching and taping videos at the same exact moment 15 years ago. isn’t that weird?! one of my other favorite songs from that time was aerosmith’s What It Takes — mainly for sentimental reasons. whenever i hear that song, i always always think of my best friend
i miss being 15
For some reason I have been a big fan of Aerosmith, although my friends ask me “You hate white-trash stuff and rednecks. Why is it that you like Aerosmith, you hypocrite?”
Lol, I was always a big fan of the Aerosmith and RunDMC video for Walk This Way.
Nikki Sixx rocks…..Vince Neil was okay, too. Now, he’s lookin’ a little comfy…..
Ya knew I’d come out of the woodwork for some 80s hair metal, eh?
Great stuff!
LOL “comfy”
this is true… nikki sixx is looking a little high maintenance. hahaha…. makes for great photos though!
Headbangers Ball? Monster Ballads??! I am beyond impressed, Ms. D. Though this was off the Dr. Feelgood album if I recall which only had a handful of good tunes on it. What about “Home Sweet Home”? Maybe not as romantic, but definitely a better song.
And crazy timing, but on my drive to pick up coffee this morning, the radio was cranking out “Kiss Me Deadly” by Lita Ford. Ya gotta remember that one too, right?
i LOVE lita ford! did you see my flashback friday #2? i have a picture of her in there. she’s awesome. i remember this scene of her sitting on a beach with a blanket wrapped around her (this was like mid to late 90s) and she said longingly, “i’m waiting for rock-n-roll to make its come back.” ack! stab me in the heart!!
home sweet home is probably in my top 5 crue songs. but i have this attachment to without you. i see how it can be argued to be the better ballad. esp bc of the intro piano… would be hard to say which song has the better intro…
Gotta love the Hair Bands of the 80’s!
I still don’t get how looking like a women made these guys tough.
don’t try to deny you love the crue too
i don’t think it was about being tough though. it was about the drama of it all, and the lavishness of the rock n roll f* it attitude. and sex. women love men who are in touch with their feminine side
I was a child throughout the 80’s… so it’s like hearing that stuff just brings back all of my childhood memories. My personal favorites are Bon Jovi (the old stuff), and of course Guns N Roses. And of course, and can’t forget the Crue. Hair metal guys are still hot… there is this one guy who runs a local glam-rock store near my house, and he’s adorable!!! the prettiest glam-rock hair I’ve ever seen!

My favorite was Tommy Lee. Seriously, nothing hotter than him in the skinny tight black jeans with the sides of his head shaved (a la the Don’t Go Away Mad video). And yes, I had skinny tight black jeans and shaved the sides of my head too. I don’t know why I thought looking like him would make me a hot girl.
hahah… don’t go away mad / just go away …
i hear you are a morrissey lover as well
@terra – i saw gnr as well in ‘91 at the Forum, along with skid row! i couldn’t hear very well for 3 days after but luckily my hearing came back completely.
You blog is listed on one of those viral list memes I was tagged with. I decided if I was going to post that, I might as well at least LOOK at the blogs that are on that list.
I am glad I did.
Thanks for the flashback. Nothing beats 80’s metal hair!
OMG VInce Neil looked so different…that was a picture of him wasn’t it?? I almost don’t believe it! Hey it’s nice to see you again! SOrry I have been gone for so long!
