Flashback Friday Volume 2
Jun 15th, 2007 by msdanielle
This week I’m taking it back to another flashback era. The days of ripped jeans and flannel. The theme of the day was sex, drugs, and rock and roll in the mid-eighties and early nineties. Do you remember where you were in 1988 or 1991? I do, and it was good times! Let’s take another stroll down memory lane, shall we?
Now This is a Monster Ballad
I think this is one of the prettiest ballads ever laid down, from the intro solo to the chorus melody, all the way to the end. But really, what the hell happened to guitar solos? They invoke such emotional that’s lacking in today’s scene. Take a peek into my soul and see if you can relate. Do you remember Tesla?
Name That Rocker
Here’s a fun little flashback game. I call it “Name That Rocker.” See if you can name who they are. I wonder what they’re doing now…

thanks for playing! You get the consolation prize — a donkey and a year’s supply of toilet paper…. i kid i kid….
Flea doesn’t sing…he plays bass guitar.
I was kidding =)… I have no idea who these 80s rockers are. I still say 3 is Billy Ray Cyrus though… he totally looks like he’s sining Achy Breaky Heart.
Don’t break my heart… my achy breaky heart…
Number 2 has to be Lars Ulrich from Metallica
#2 is Lars Ulrich from Metallica. #3 is Joe Elliott from Def Leppard and #4 is Lita Ford. Not sure who #1 is, might be Phil Anselmo from Pantera.
holy crap, roberta, you NAILED it! that is phil anselmo. ahh…phil… great job! wanna play round 2?
This game rocks, Danielle! First cartoons, now music?
Are my comments showing up? I know all four
There’s a round two? where?
I believe #2 is NAPSTER HATER!!!
Made me not want to listen to them ever again. LoL
Now you’re speaking my language, Danielle…lol. I’m not ashamed to admit I grew up listening to the albums of many a hair band, Tesla included. If I had gotten here sooner I would’ve nailed all the answers to the trivia photos, but alas I am slow
Add more?
@roberta and mike – that’s funny, we were probably all listening to the same music back in the day. i listened to everything from glam hair metal to sepultura. then i phazed into grunge in ‘91. was all about nirvana and alice and chains, pearl jam and soundgarden…etc… i’m glad you guys can relate to the music, it was such an important part of my life back then.
Yep I listened to all of that
Now I mostly listen to progressive rock/metal and much heavier stuff when I’m in the mood for it.
I saw Alice in Chains live back when I was in high school. It was the year their debut cd came out. They opened up the Clash of the Titans tour which featured Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer. Boy were they in the wrong place. I thought they sounded great, but the majority of the crowd was definitely NOT there to see a grunge band. They were shouting all kinds of “nice” things at AIC and there was a huge “We want Slayer” chant during their entire set. Silly drunk people.
yes, morrrrrrrrrrrrre….lol I guess it helps that I run a music blog, too, eh? Oh yeah and I grew up in the eighties
(big Def Leppard/Pantera/early Metallica fan)
Thank you again. You are the best. Blogging and good music. I love it. That’s the life.
AWESOME!
That video takes me back. Was the fave song of my crazy girlfriend at the time. If there’s one summer where I can say I truly lived a lifetime … it was that one.
Thanks.
just the first notes of the intro give me chills. i truly lived back then as well, since as kids we’re all invincible. having a rock-n-roll f*ck it attitude was just the order of the day…
umm .. i didn’t have a radio in the 80s
