Farewell to Pandita

pandita1.jpgThis post is for Pandita, a wonderfully charming visitor that my best friend Angelica and I had the pleasure of hosting. Pandita is from Australia, and is a flying trapeze artist who made a three day stop-over here in Los Angeles on her way to New York, where she’ll be teaching flying trapeze to some big-apple teens and tweens for the next three months. Pandita is a friend of Anton (Angelica’s friend, and also from Australia), who traveled with Angelica and I to Bali this past January.

Sharing stories with Pandita made me really want to travel again. Just hearing about how McDonald’s has an Ozzie Burger is so entertaining — let’s see, I think she said it has a hamburger patty, an egg over easy (or “easy over” in Australia), bacon, beets (yes, beets!), lettuce, tomato and mayo. Not that I’d want to travel to Australia to eat McDonald’s, but you know what I mean… I do want to check out the Cadbury chocolate factory in Tazmania. Did you guys know the Cadbury factory is actually in Tazmania and not the UK?

Note: Don’t believe them if an Australian person tells you that either a.) Sydney Harbor Bridge closes at noon everyday to let the kangaroos cross or b.) that the most popular job in Sydney is that of a Koala Prodder (someone who pokes those stubborn koalas off the bridge structure with a stick). They’re just not true.

Pandita, you have such an amazing energy about you and I wish you all the luck in New York! When you come back through LA, we’ll go to Disneyland and take a trip up to San Francisco. And perhaps we can convince Anton to come too! Angelica and I miss you already! I wish I had a picture of all three of us…but I guess next time. Have a safe trip, and happy flying!

Anton, this picture is for you!

Question: If you guys were to pick any place in the world to travel to, and money was no object, where would you go? I’m leaning toward Argentina, then maybe Japan, then Australia, and then probably Spain (again). :D

One place that I have always wanted to visit for some unknown reason is the Azores Islands. I’ve never traveled outside of the US other than a trip to Tijuana as a kid and Wheatley, Ontario a few years ago to pick up my motorcycle.

As a kid in school, I did a report on the Azores Islands and have had a desire to visit ever since. I don’t know anyone that has ever been there and haven’t really researched the area at all but I still plan to visit.

isn’t it funny how some things can be burned into your mind, and leave an impression on you from years ago? i did a report on the galapagos (sp?) islands, and i’ve been intrigued by them ever since. that’s another place i’d love to visit.
i traveled through europe awhile back, and ever since then i’ve always encouraged my friends to travel, to just make it happen. here in LA, there are a lot of ppl who have never even left california. such a shame…

Australia would have to be my first choice destination. It’s a life’s dream for me. Then I would probably choose New Zealand followed by Canada. I guess I’m a sucker for the commonwealth countries.

The States is also somewhere I want to explore, I’ve only been to Alaska and Seattle (Which were incredible) but there’s obviously loads more to see.

As to you choosing Spain as 4th choice, well I’m lucky enough to live here and get to travel around regularly. It’s truly a fantastic place.

By the way, Cadbury’s have factories not only in Tasmania, but also in UK, Ireland, Spain and many other countries.

I’d love to learn the trapeze. I’d be good as that guy that hangs upside down the whole time. I doubt anyone could catch me otherwise.

As far as places to go, I’d have to say Africa, Brazil (Amazon), Japan, and New Zealand…in no particular order.

@steve - hey steve :) i didn’t realize you were in spain. but i think you have the sydney opera house as your header, right? i really loved spain when i visited. something magically romantic about it. but i didn’t have much time there, which is why i want to go back. other countries i want to re-visit are austria and switzerland. absolutely breathtaking :)

@derrich - if you ever do flying trapeze, will you please post a video of it? that would be cool if you did it in new zealand and youtube’d it :D hey! if you’re in australia next year, maybe pandita can show you a thing or two! the camp she’ll be teaching at in NY only goes up to 17. sorry. ;)

But yea. Guys like me and the guy above turns the blogging world into something that resembles the atmosphere of a bar.. haha

Hey Jeff - I resemble that! Seriously… that was nothing but a compliment. Or it could be that I am secretly trying to install a patriarchal hierarchy on the blogosphere. MS D. loves me just the same.

oh my god saman! If you go to Japan, you HAVE TO be on one of those game shows. you could be on like every game show in japan. OR you could be the dude who pulls the lever that shoots the naked men onto the side of the snow mountain as they’re trying to relax in the sauna post-ski :D THAT would be great content!

Yeah, I would have to be the one pulling the pranks and not having them pulled on me - but I doubt that would happen!

i like the “spot” too, it was worth every penny. it’s a lip ring :D i might have been offended if you said something like, “i hope that’s not a stupid lip ring!” lol

Ahhhh a lip ring eh? I thought it was just a spot.. hard to tell on photo..

if it’s a lip ring… it’s even sexier.

Funnily enough New Zealand’s Kiwi burger is the same as the Aussie burger.

Burger Fuel in Auckland is the best though.

What a lovely article to include in the Carnival of Australia.
Did Pandita introduce you to TimTams????? They are the best.
You stay safe and happy. Happy travelling. I’ve lived in many places and I reckon Australia is pretty neat.
