The t-shirt I’m wearing right now says, “Ms. Danielle’s blogging this.” And wouldn’t you figure, I am! I got this shirt in the mail last week from Dina at Market Leverage. If you’re in the affiliate marketing space, or are looking to get into affiliate marketing, make sure to check out Market Leverage. Their account managers are very helpful and will guide you as to which programs are doing well and will help you make the most of your marketing efforts.

Also just announced this past week is Tracking 202 Pro which is now out of beta testing. If you’re looking for a host of new PPC tracking tools, check them out. Let me know if you guys have any questions about third-party tracking software. I’m thinking of doing a post outline on how it works and why you need it. What do you think?

Testing My Flip Mino on the Weather

This afternoon I got to check out JT’s recent Polar Plunge video (eek!!). Seeing as how us Orange County natives don’t have much experience jumping into freezing cold water as a pastime, I thought I’d throw up a video response on how the weather is faring here in Southern California. It’s a good way for me to test out my new Flip Mino video camcorder, and also get some fresh air!

Currently it’s 56 degrees according to Weather.com, and that’s actually cooler than I thought it was. The wind is a bit chilly, but the sun is strong today. Yea, we are way spoiled here, I know.

If you guys would like to do a video response also on how the weather is in your part of the country, let us all know by posting your link in my comments section. I would love to see your surroundings through your eyes. Anyone who participates before this coming Friday at midnight will be added in this post at the end of the week (as long as it’s posted in your personal blog). Monday Mid-Meeting Haha

In the midst of a meeting with one of my clients today, my associate stopped to make a comment on the current status of his part of the project. In reference to an email between himself and another colleague concerning an action item, he mentioned her statement that “I haven’t forgotten about it yet.” Following up, he stated to the group, “I interpret that to mean that she plans to forget about it.”

Today I bought a Flip Mino sort of on the fly. But let me back up and tell you how my day started. I got a text message last night that my buddy Nate Whitehill was going to be in LA, so we decided to opt for a lunch get-together. Nate couldn’t have arrived on a prettier December day. Coming from Seattle, it was a welcome change of climate. And it was the perfect opportunity for us to visit again and exchange 2008 reflections and 2009 goals.

As expected, we talked about how our holidays went, our families, and gifts that were given and received. Nate is expecting a Flip Mino HD in the mail this Tuesday, a pretty awesome blogger gift from his father. We discussed video blogging and I got the urge to go buy a Flip for myself, with the intention of testing it for future video blogs. Since Best Buy doesn’t yet carry the HD in-store, I bought the regular Mino, and Nate and I are going to compare actual video quality once his arrives.

We traveled over to Urth Caffe, where we saw the tiniest dog I’ve ever seen in my life. It must have been about 8″ in length, all up, complete with pink knit sweater and pink hair bow, which Nate appropriately named Hamster Pup. Here’s the video I shot:

All in all, the video quality is pretty good. I did notice it got kind of wavy when I was swinging it back and forth, although I probably shouldn’t have been swinging it around so quickly anyway. I can’t wait to see how the HD compares. I’ll admit though, it’s super easy to use, and uploading the video straight from the software to Youtube was very simple. I’ll most likely be testing the Flip a lot more so look out for more random video blogs from me, coming soon!

John Chow Finally Buys a Nikon

My buddy Derek tipped me off about Michael Kwan’s Photoshop-John-Chow-and-Make-Me-Laugh Contest (not the officially deemed title) yesterday, so I figured I’d throw something together. If you don’t know, the image is a reference to my Canon vs. Nikon post from a few months back. Just click on it to see the image at full size.

I love these kinds of contests, even if they’re not all contests, because people come up with some hilarious pictures. I can win a box of stuff from Michael, which I probably won’t win, but it’s fun just the same to participate.

Heading for the Motherland

In less than two weeks I’ll be on a plane headed for Tokyo! What a crazy thought. I’ve never been to Japan before, surprisingly, since about 90% of my friends have (and I don’t have many Japanese friends). It’ll be mid-summer and I can’t wait for the hot, humid climate that awaits. I won’t mind the approximately 14 hour flight from Los Angeles, seeing as how the trek to Bali was an excruciatingly disorienting 22 hours.

What do I plan to do on my trip, you ask? First and foremost, eat. I plan to eat my way all the way through Japan, from Tokyo to Osaka. I have two weeks to consume as many delectable delights as my stomach can manage. I’m also going to try to document as much as I can, since well, who cares if I look like a tourist. I am a tourist, and I’m Japanese so it’s OK if I take my camera everywhere. Gives me something to post here on my blog.

I’m also looking forward to visiting the amazing temples and beautiful scenery of the countryside. While I plan to do these things, I really have no idea what to expect. Each time I travel it’s such a huge learning experience. It’s humbling, educating, motivating, and just fun!

But I have a question – do you think I should bring my laptop? I know, pretty lame question right? Well, I’m not sure I want to carry it with me, or worry about it. But you never know when it might come in handy, plus I could put all of my pictures onto my hard drive. Again, I know, lame, but let me know what you think. I’m not always going to be in the city, so I don’t know if I’ll have access to communication. The flip argument is that I’m on vacation, and I shouldn’t worry about the rest of the world. LOL

Prince Gets Deep in Hollywood

Here’s something you don’t see everyday — Prince getting down on the dance floor in Hollywood. I hit up Deep last night at Vanguard and there he was, gettin his groove on. I snapped one pic and his bodyguard yelled at me, “No pictures!” He looked like he was going to pound me straight into the floor. OK.

He was in town for this past weekend’s Coachella music festival. Here’s the picture I took. Do you see him? I’m not sure who the beautiful curvy woman was though.

Here’s a short video clip I took of him. You can’t really see him, just his long sleeve white shirt bouncing around. It’s loud and distorted so turn the music down if you’re at work or have your headphones on. Just another random night in Hollywood.

Jeni and I went on another hike through Griffith Park recently, and I wanted to share these pictures with all of you. They were taken on my Canon PowerShot SD600. Someone people asked last time if I’d seen the parts that were burned, which I didn’t. This time I did. If you live near Los Angeles, or will be visiting soon, Griffith Park is a great way to get away from the city and enjoy some nature where you’d least expect it. Some of the pictures came out very creepy, I hope you like them.

My Awesome Day

I had such a great day today, and I’m so exhausted but I wanted to share it with you all. It all started with waking up super early — at 8:00am. Why did I get up so early, you ask? I went to OMMA’s Global Hollywood Conference to check out the Exhibit Hall and sponsored workshops. It was at the Renaissance Hotel located at the Hollywood and Highland complex.

It was a very small event, so you know what that means — lots of free stuff for everyone! As usual, I’ll be posting a couple updates from the event as well.

Afterward, I traveled over to my friend Jeni’s house which was down the street off Hollywood Blvd. From her house, we walked all the way up to the Griffith Park Observatory. That’s right, people, we walked. Across insane LA traffic, up the hillsides of Hollywood, and in glorious 70 degree weather. Actually, it was a truly incredible hike which I’ve never done before.

Tips on Hiking to the Griffith Park Observatory

If you want to visit the Griffith Park Observatory, you can park at the bottom of the hill and hoof it. It takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour to take the brisk stroll, and entrance is free. Here are a few tips I recommend:

Wear good walking shoes. I had to borrow Jeni’s shoes and shirt since I wasn’t dressed for hiking. The Converse gave me a blister on the way up, and kept slipping under my feet on the way down.
Bring drinking water and a light sweater. It can get hot, so make sure you can quench your thirst. You can refill at the Observatory’s water fountain. It can also get chilly at the top.
Take some pictures. If the haze isn’t too severe, you’ll get some beautiful shots.
Bring snacks or a lunch and have a picnic. And don’t forget to recycle! There are collection canisters all around the Observatory.
Lay on the grass in front of the Observatory and close your eyes.
Complete the hike before sundown. It’s not a very dangerous place, but it’s probably not the safest place to be after dark. That’s all folks!
